Whittle Knight and Boatwood fully support REINZ campaign to regulate the property management industry. REINZ have called the campaign “A Call for Change: Better Property Management”. REINZ are hoping their campaign will encourage the government to act and consult with the industry to develop regulations.

The majority of other countries regulate their property managers and the fact that New Zealand does not means there are negative consequences for both landlords and tenants. A large number of negative experiences are being reported by both groups and this impacts the reputation of other property managers who are responsible professionals.

REINZ are putting pressure on the government to decide on how they will act on this before the upcoming 2020 elections. REINZ specifically want consumer protection for money being held in a trust account, all property managers having a process to resolve disputes, every property manager to have insurance to practice in the property management industry and that all property managers are complying to regulations.
